  1. T. C.: It’s even more eclectic than that but the shuffle picked what it picked. I was sorry to see that none of my favorite songs from the 80s made it on there.

  2. Ha! I’m guessing you mean especially the Latin ones. Ensemble Organum is a fascinating group, an amazing combination of scholarship and artistic excellence, led by Marcel Pérès. For most of the recordings I have, they were centered at the former Cistercian Abbaye de Royaumont. I’m particularly fond of their pre-Gregorian/Early Roman chant CDs. The Cistercian one is also awesome. They recorded in the abbey itself (which is a retreat and venue for other performers as well), so in the case of the Cistercian hymns, the effect is entirely authentic, and truly haunting. My favorite CD of theirs is absolutely “Vêpres du jour de Pâques” (Vespers for Easter Day). It’s amazing, so I’m happy it was represented amongst those 15 out of 3600+ songs.

  3. The Latin may seem intimdating or geeky or whatever, but the sound of the chant is amazing. It’s more like Greek chant in some ways. It makes for great background study music.
