1 Kings 1 — Sounds like Solomon’s entrance into Gihon (vv. 38-39) foreshadowed Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the one that Zechariah prophesied about (Zech. 9:9 cf. Matt. 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:29-44; John 12:12-19). An I can’t be alone in seeing a connection between another passage in Zechariah. Here, in v. 40, the people rejoice at Solomon’s coming “so that the earth was split (בקע) by their noise.” Zechariah prophesied of a time of the LORD’s coming when he would touch down on the Mount of Olives and it would be split (בקע) in two (Zech. 14:14).
1 Kings 2 — Solomon came into his kingship like gangbusters, much like his father did. When David became king he went to war immediately. Now that Solomon is king he’s cleaning house. I wonder if Solomon isn’t a bit too touchy though?
