What a fantastic movie. I’d heard a lot of good things about it so I had to see it for myself. Let the Right One In (Swed: Låt den rätte komma in) is a story about two twelve year olds, one of which happens to be a vampire. One gets bullied and the other kills people to feed on their blood. What they have in common is that they’re each others only friend and they’re both socially awkward. There’s not a ton of action or violence in the film and what little there is is done extremely well. It’s graphic without being unnecessarily gruesome. But the last scene, which I won’t mention, is really worth sitting through everything that comes before it. Great movie. I really appreciated how classic the vampire was. She couldn’t go out in the sunlight, she needed to feed on human blood, if she bit someone without killing them then they’d turn into a vampire, and she had to have permission to enter someone’s home. Oh, and she could fly although we never actually see her do it. Two thumbs up, five stars, and a hearty recommendation for one and all to see it. The fact that it’s a Swedish film and has subtitles didn’t detract from it at all, in fact I hardly noticed, and trust me, I generally don’t like films with subtitles. Check it out if ever you have the chance.
