If You’re Into Debates

I don’t find the thesis of this one even worth debating but if you like debates then check out the James White vs. Dan Barker debate on “Was Jesus a Myth?”  The full audio of the debate can be found here and if you’d like to watch the videos then see them here.

  1. I’ve listened to quite a few debates from James White. He always seems to do a very good job, which is probably due to the extensive homework he does before the actual debate.

Did you know that he has never lost a debate yet? ;)

  2. I know another Barker – I expect Dan, like her, is barking mad. Debating Jesus mythers? Waste of oxygen.

  3. Jeff: In my estimation WLC is the best in the business (well, next to Michael L. Brown).

Steph: Exactly correct! It’s amazing what people can deceive themselves into not believing.

  4. Nick: Did someone say William Lane Craig? I dare say there is no person on earth with whom I would want to debate less than Craig–he’s them man! Of course, James White is great, too! :-)

  5. WLC is probably the best debater I’ve heard and he tries to only debate the best. I don’t know about White. He just gets on my nerves too much everytime I hear him. I felt bad for him in the Ehrman debate. I haven’t listened to Michael Brown much mainly because he debates topics I’m not that interested in. I’ve heard Greg Boyd debate Robert Price, a Jesus myther, and he was pretty good. He also didn’t come off as obnoxious.

Anyone else y’all’ve (how’s that for Texan?) heard?

  6. Jason: Yeah, WLC tends to dominate.

TC: Yes, sharp indeed. At times hard to palate, but sharp nonetheless.

Bryan: I like Michael Brown’s debates because he knows the rabbinic literature better than those he debates and when they try to use it against him it always backfires. Plus he’s really concerned for their souls. And Price is obnoxious to listen to. I’d rather listen to White!

I’ve heard quite a few folks debate. Greg Bahnsen stands head and shoulders above them all though. Great rhetorical skills. It’s a shame he’s not still around.

  7. I rather read decent scholarship than listen to fundamentalists debating fundamentalists. Everything comes down to ‘fundamentals’ in debates… ;-)

    ha!
