Special Thanks

I’d like to extend a special thank you to Baker Academic for their generosity in sending me free review copies of Richard Bauckham’s The Testimony of the Beloved Disciple: Narrative, History, and Theology in the Gospel of John and Craig D. Allert’s A High View of Scripture? The Authority of the Bible and the Formation of the New Testament Canon.

I’d also like to thank J. Ed Komoszewski for sending me a free review copy of Putting Jesus In His Place: The Case for the Deity of Christ. (Read my review here, here, and here — more coming soon).

And last but not least I’d like to thank Chris Tilling for offering me some sage advice.  I asked him how he gets all the review copies of books that he does and his reply was basically that he was the coolest person alive and that’s why people just give him stuff.  I mean being a disciple of N.T. Wright (pbuh) has to count for something in this world, right?  But his advice to me was:

I recommend you just ask whatever publisher is publishing a book you are particulalry interested in, if you can have a review copy for your blog. If you think you can draw the attention of many among their target audience to a certain work, then you will be doing them a favour too.Tip: Threaten to eat their babies if they turn you down.

Well, it worked.  I contacted publishers, threatened to eat their children and a few weeks later I have some books coming in the mail.

So thanks again to all of the abovementioned people — your generosity has not gone unappreciated.

  1. I didn’t like Craig Allert’s book….he said everything but the logical conclusion of what he presented….Rome is right in their view of tradition!!! I don’t know…maybe I misundertood his premises or something….but I really didn’t enjoy his “evangelical” perspective…
