Oxford University Press sent along a copy of Matthew V. Novenson’s Christ Among the Messiahs: Christ Language in Paul and Messiah Language in Ancient Judaism for review. Larry Hurtado highlighted this volume a few months back so I’m excited to finally get a look at it.

It sounds like an really interesting book and I would like to read it, but at $67 plus postage at Amazon, I can’t afford it. I am 78, learning Greek and Hebrew, and am retired on social security. What a steep price! Maybe it will be out someday in paperback at a more reasonable cost.
Laurence: I feel your pain. I don’t have money for such expensive volumes either. If OUP didn’t send it for review then I’d never get to take a look at it.
Looks like one to get. Thanks for the heads up
I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say. Novenson taught at NC State (from whereI recently graduated!) briefly before he got the job at Edinburgh. In the little bit of time I spent with him, he struck me as a solid scholar.
Chris: My pleasure.
Alex: I’m sure you’re right. Hopefully his book will confirm your impression.
