I’ve just learned via Larry Hurtado’s blog that Alan F. Segal has recently died. I wish I was able to say that I’m more familiar with his work than I am, but my exposure to Segal’s scholarship comes from reading various essays he has contributed to edited volumes as well as portions of his groundbreaking Two Powers in Heaven: Early Rabbinic Reports About Christianity and Gnosticism on Google Books. My prayers are with his family and friends. May his memory be for a blessing.
