In the Mail: UPS Edition

UPS dropped off a package from Zondervan containing The New Testament in Antiquity: A Survey of the New Testament within Its Cultural Contexts.  After flipping through it for a little while I can say that it is a beautifully bound volume and it looks to be pretty substantive in terms of content.  I can’t wait to dig into this one.

To hold you over until my review you can check out the video interview with the authors posted at Koinonia as well as Matthew Montonini’s interview with Gary Burge at New Testament Perspectives.

I’m glad you get all these free books to review (actually I’m just saying that to withhold my jealousy!).

  2. I’m looking forward to this review and how the book could augment other reference material.

  3. Nick Norelli says:

Ranger: I’m glad I get them too! :)

Jeff: I’m looking forward to reviewing this one. It’s looks to be really well put together.

  4. Cool! Nijay posted a review of it. It does not look too exciting but I’ll wait to read yours. I’m not sure at this point if I want another introducttion to the NT.

  5. Samuel Garcia says:

what’s the deal with getting all these free review books? How does that even work? It’s so awesome!

  6. Nick Norelli says:

Celucien: I’ve only got 3 NT introductions (Metzger; Theissen; Carson/Moo) and now this one (so I guess I have 4). Out of them all this one looks the best but time will tell if it is or not.

  7. Nick Norelli says:

Samuel: I explain it all here and as you will see, I think it is awesome as well!

  8. Bryan L says:

I thought Stanley and McDonald’s book (Early Christianity…) was also an NT Intro. I only have Brown (and Stanley and McDonald if you count them). I want DeSilva and also Johnson but honestly I can’t see myself getting interested in reading any NT intro. This one looks like it might be good though.

  9. Nick Norelli says:

Bryan: Stanley huh? I didn’t know you two were on a first name basis. :-P I guess that is a NT intro now that you mention it. I haven’t read anything substantial in it yet but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t address the theology of the NT like the other introductions I have do. It seems more focused on the literature itself.

  10. Bryan L says:

Hah, I meant Porter. I was wondering why it looked so weird when I typed it. : )

  11. Nick Norelli says:

Bryan: Yeah, I was looking at it like “Stanley?” Then I realized that was his first name…
