The title of this post states the obvious, but I found a recent statement by Jeff to be quite the opposite of my experience in a similar context. Jeff said:
Apparently I don’t know the Bible as well as I thought. I didn’t grow up with catechisms and Bible teaching; I grew up in the Catholic church which taught us nothing about the Bible.
I grew up in he Catholic Church as well, but we actually learned a great deal about the Bible and theology in CCD, although I can’t claim to have really applied anything I learned to life. But I can say with great pleasure that my introduction to the Gospel was in the RCC, as well as my introduction to the doctrine of the Trinity. Not only did we learn about the Trinity in CCD, but it was ingrained in the liturgy of Sunday morning Mass. It’s funny how at the time I didn’t appreciate any of this, but looking back I’m very thankful for what I did learn growing up a Catholic.

That’s fantastic. I wish it were the case for me. I went through CCD in a couple of churches and we just learned superfluous stuff. No gospel presentation there or in church although we recited the creed of course.
My mom told me about God and Jesus when I was a preschooler and I actually thought about and even talked to God a little bit when I was a kid. I would have accepted the gospel at 5 or 6 if it was presented to me. But God chose for me to receive the Holy Spirit and trust Him for salvation when I was 19 through reading the book of John.
I was somewhat ticked off about this for many years. Why wait so long? But it shows me His providence and it’s humbling which is something God needs to do a lot with me. It was His doing not mine.
It was nice to get the gospel presentation right from the Source.

Jeff: I guess the important thing is that now you know the gospel!
I went in two different churches: St. Anthony’s of Padua, and St. John’s. St. John’s wasn’t all that informative, but then again I had already started my moral decline. But I learned a lot at St. Anthony’s.
