Update Frustration

The other day I installed Libronix on my computer with the CD-Rom that came with the ESV Reverse Interlinear.  Everything was working fine.  Now Logos is offering a free Bible commentary on Matthew and Mark which I downloaded.  It said I’d have to update to Libronix 3.0 so I updated everything, and now NOTHING is working in Libronix.  I can’t open anything.  This is wholly frustrating, but rather than trying to fix it I think I’ll just uninstall everything and call it a wrap.

  1. Hmm. Might be you need Libronix 3.0 versions of texts. Might be a bad install.

I’ve had that sort of problem with Libronix, myself. I also called it a wrap.

    So, what about that Gustav?

  2. Chuck: I’m not sure what it was, but I’ve uninstalled it and it ain’t going back on! I don’t care what they’re giving away for free! (Unless of course it’s an actual book I can hold).

  3. I’m a former Logos power user as well. I put a lot of money into it and although it had a ton of books available, it just never worked right, and always felt clunky as a program. I finally bit the bullet and mimicked some of my profs who had bought Macs specifically for Accordance. I’m glad I did as it has yet to dissappoint. I do hear that Bibleworks 7 is really nice, but Ive never tried it.

  4. Ranger: Oh no! A Mac?!! God forbid I ever cross that line!

  5. Nick: I gave away a physical book tonight. I gave my extra Net First Edition to a Sunday School teacher. So hopefully it won’t just gather dust anymore.

  6. Chuck: Well that was nice of you. I hear that the NET Bibles are kind of clunky looking. Any truth to that?

  7. You can see the cover construction lines on my premium bonded leather copy. It shows the dings and creases pretty readily, and the gold gilt edges have plenty of little scratches.

The bible’s big problem as a book is simply it’s weight and thickness. Not a light carry, and the weight probably deforms the cover all the faster for it.

It’s still an attractive volume and the notes make it my first choice when I grab a bible to take from the shelf of bibles.

  8. I can’t say that can relate to your experience and I don’t really know what’s causing it…

  9. I wonder if it had anything to do with the ESV. ;-)

  10. Despotes: No doubt Mr. Norelli’s computer had a hard time with the ESV’s updated computer language that still resembled Algol too much for anyone not weaned on that aged language.

  11. Hey, Chuck O’Reilly! Good spin. :-)

  12. Chuck: How about the text formatting? I’ve heard some complaints in that area.

Mike: I blame the devil for it all, but it’s good to know that all is working well on your end.

TC: It was originally working with the ESV! Probably because it’s such a fine translation. ;)

  13. TC: LOL!
