Hebrew Time

I just received my copies of A Grammar for Biblical Hebrew (Revised Edition) and Handbook to A Grammar for Biblical Hebrew.  Thanks to Eve Vanzant of Abingdon Press for the review copies!  And thank you to the FedEx man for bringing them!

I’ve skimmed through them and they seem like they are going to be very useful.  My initial reaction to the Grammar is that the hardcover is so nice that I can’t figure out why they put a cheap paper cover over top of it.  Also, it’s going to be a challenge to use Seow’s transliteration scheme since it’s so different from what I’m used to.  But I’ll get through it.

I think that on Monday morning I’ll officially start working through the grammar.  The plan is to afford myself at least an hour every morning to learn.  Hopefully, I’ll find an extra hour at night to keep learning.  Stay tuned for mini-reviews as I work through it.

Very nice. I just finished another book and am going to start my Greek grammar tonight or tomorrow. I see you thank the FedEx man… my UPS guy is starting to feel like a close friend. 8)

I learned from Seow’s grammar and really liked it, though that was before Pratico’s came out (which apparently everyone loves). There was no workbook when I used, though, or at least we didn’t have one for class. That should make it a bit easier. Looking forward to reading your thoughts.

Nathan: Yeah, I’m not as tight with the UPS guy. He doesn’t bring me as much stuff. :-P

Danny: I’ve been told that Seow’s grammar isn’t good for self-study. Pratico and Van Pelt’s was recommended. I’m reviewing this one for Abingdon Press though, so I’m happy to stick with it. Maybe when I’m done I’ll try to go with the one from Zondervan.

And there still isn’t a workbook, to my great dismay. I did however procure the companion guide which gives lesson overviews and question answers.
