I don’t know much about tending sheep, but isn’t fleecing the sheep one of the shepherd’s jobs? If so then maybe we should come up with another term for pastors who rob their congregations.

It’s right for a shepherd to shear the sheep in the right way and at the right time so that others can benefit from the wool - but not to fleece them unrestrictedly for his or her own benefit, to make for himself or herself a nice comfortable bed!

I suggest the term “fleecing the monkey” - because you should never fleece monkeys, it’s common knowledge.

Matthew & Nathan: If I were to combine both your thoughts, then I could render 1Corinthians 7:19 into idiomatic English saying:
It doesn’t make a difference whether or not a man’s monkey has been fleeced. The important thing is to follow God’s commands.
