Annotated Search Terms

Lot of interesting searches today.  Here’s some that I found interesting or amusing:

smallville crucified

God forbid!  It’s bad enoug that my Lord and Savior had to endure such torture, I wouldn’t want my favorite TV show to have to experience the same.

how long were adam and eve in the garden

Apparently long enough to mess everything up for the rest of us! :-o

pentecostal prayer power

Yes, it exists, and yes, I do have it!  E-KON-Deh-Dah-BO-Shah-Ta! :-P

jabbawockeez overrated

Blasphemy!  And it was probably one of those hacks from BreakSk8 or Status Quo who typed in the term in the first place.

defending fasting

I’d never dream of it.  I deplore the practice, but alas, sometimes it is necessary. :-|

patmos island of dr yakub

That’s like the Nation of Islam’s version of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

robert morey trinity issues

Perhaps my least favorite book on the Trinity.  Something about Morey makes you want to shower after reading him.

“Something about Morey makes you want to shower after reading him.”

What do you mean?

I thought the section on the intertestamental literature of the Trinity book was extremely helpful.

John: I mean that Morey’s scholarship is suspect. His book on Islam was terrible and his book on the Trinity was wholly unimpressive. But I’m glad you found something of use in it. Maybe I’ll re-read that section and see if I can get something this time.

fasting can be a quite viable means to significant spiritual growth - it is a spiritual discipline - note too Jesus did not say “if you fast” but ‘when you fast” it is an assumed practice in the NT. (Matt 5:16). That said, it should be coupled with prayer and reading of the word. Plus there are tremendous health benefits too…

Nick, any examples of his suspect scholarship? I’ve heard that before, but when compared with Scripture, he’s like the most biblically accurate theologian out there. So are you referring to philosophic nuances, not fully representing a position he’s refuting, etc? Or do you mean exegetically suspect?

John: Sure, everything in The Islamic Invasion pertaining to Allah being a moon deity (ch. 4). M S M Saifullah, Mohd Elfie Nieshaem Juferi & ‘Abdullah David did a pretty good job of refuting his claims and ‘evidence’ in this article.

Of course I’m not advocating Islam and their case for Islam is not met in the article, but they do shed light on Morey’s suspect scholarship. There’s a reason that other Islamic apologists don’t use that particular argument, ya know?

And when you say: “he’s like the most biblically accurate theologian out there” that’s like a joke or hyperbole, right?

I have a problem with his presuppositionalism (don’t know if that qualifies as “philosophic nuances” or not), and he definitely caricatures positions that he argues against (e.g., Islam). And since he’s a Calvinist then I kind of have to think that he’s exegetically suspect, otherwise I wouldn’t be a good Arminian. ;)
