Priceless/Worthless Quote #5

Priceless Quote #5

“Love has no meaning whatsoever in Piper’s system. It amounts to little more than divine masturbation.”

~Ken Schenk

Review 4: Piper’s Future of Justification

Worthless Quote #5

“Christianity is often touted as one of the world’s three great monotheistic religions, on a par with Judaism and Islam. This is not a correct assessment. And neither Judaism nor Islam will concede to Christianity the right to the title of monotheistic religion.”

~Clifford Durousseau

Jesus Was Not a Trinitarian, (Restoarion Fellowship, 2007), ix.

*Aside from being absolutely incorrect, since when did Christianity rely on those who oppose it to define it?  You don’t get to equate Unitarianism with Monotheism and then deny Trinitarianism as polytheistic without qualification.  I’m sorry Mr. Durousseau, it just doesn’t work that way.

Seriously I almost quoted that Schenk statement on my blog today! lol

I knew if anyone would appreciate it, you would! lol

That Schenk quote is awesome. Oh…I can’t stop laughing. Even my cat and my lizard are laughing. Not really…just my cat…the lizard is asleep under a newspaper.

Nick, now I don’t agree with Piper on many things, but it seems to me that you’re doing the same thing as your worthless quote.

Piper would not agree with Witherington’s statement. So it seems rather unfair to give the “opposition” against Piper the right to determine what is and what isn’t in his system.

And this is not about me being a Calvinist. I would (and have) made very similar statements when people do such things to Arminians or whatever other group.

*Schenk

(I was thinking about Witherington’s criticism of Schriener).

Mike,

I’m not doing anything but quoting Schenk. The quote is priceless because of the reference to ‘divine masturbation’ — How classic is that?!! My concern isn’t with Piper’s theology (which obviously I disagree with), but rather with the hilariousness of the phrase…

valid point. it is very quotable.
