Doug Chaplin just responded to a challenge issued by John Hobbins to list 10 verses that need to be known to understand Scripture and what they tell us about the individual listing them. Doug took up the first part of the challenge and also expanded it a bit by listing quotes from church fathers and the Book of Common Prayer before moving onto his list of Bible verses. He started a meme in which he tagged Peter Kirk and John Hobbins (urging him to answer his own challenge). I know I wasn’t tagged, and I probably won’t get tagged for this one, but this was an idea that I was thinking of for a Top 10 List anyway, so I’ll offer mine here. (Note that I probably could shift around the order upon deeper reflection — but for now I’m satisfied with this).
1. John 1:1-18
2. Philippians 2:5-11
3. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4. Romans 13:10 (cf. Gal. 5:14)
5. Isaiah 59:2
6. Romans 5:6-8
7. Romans 8:28
8. James 4:6 (cf. 1Pet. 5:5)
9. Galatians 5:22-23
10. 1Samuel 15:22
